Abstract

This paper is a continuation of Part 1 [1], using the method of the atomic modeling with the potential of Tersoff-Brenner-Stewart to describe the mechanical properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). Large scale effect was found for the mechanical properties of nanotubes with diameters of several nanometers. A significant difference in the properties of nanotubes such as "zigzag" and "chair" is set, i.e. helicity of the atomic structure is essential. The difference in elasticity in tension and compression of nanotubes (bi-modulus effect) is detected. Scaling instability effect of nanotubes in compression is identified.<br />
