Abstract

It investigates possibilities of the librarian's performance in prison libraries with regard to carrying out educational-cultural-informational activities, in order to guarantee the re-socialization of the inmates. It lists as problematic: How can prison libraries contribute to the search for social transformation of prisoners? What is the role of the librarian in this transformation? It aims to reflect on the assumptions of Social Librarianship and the social role of the librarian with regard to their performance in prison libraries, highlighting the purpose of the prison system in re-socializing the inmates, instigating them to a different future vision than the one already experienced. It is characterized by being an exploratory research with a qualitative approach, delimiting itself as bibliographic and documentary, and as for the method of data collection, document analysis was used. Stresses the importance of the social role of the librarian in seeking to create opportunities that guarantee basic human rights as a form of inclusion. He concludes by emphasizing the library as an equipment to promote and guarantee basic human rights such as access to education, culture and information.
