Abstract

The Rosetta Stone was important in deciphering the meaning of the hieroglyphs inscribed on the walls of temples and tombs of the ancient Egyptians. Thanks to the interest and perseverance of Thomas Young and Jean-François Champollion we now know what was kept in those texts with figures of plants, animals and other symbols ""meaningless"" for those who did not know their secrets. Here we summarize part of that history that now allows us to communicate with a past of more than 3000 years ago.
