Abstract
Innovative technology encourages reliable and secure energy metering systems. Smart Energy Meter (SEM) is an electronic device designed to measure and monitor the use of electrical energy by involving the internet network and android application. This research is focused on creating an android-based SEM design, monitoring and analyzing the performance of the SEM. Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) communication protocol is used as data communication protocol between SEM and Antares server. The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) communication protocol is used as the data communication protocol between the Antares server and the user through the android application interface. SEM performance is tested by comparing the results of voltage and current measurements using SEM and multimeter in real time. The test results show that the android-based SEM design is able to monitor the use of electrical energy, wifi authentication, electrical system protection, and monitor the performance of the wifi network used. The average difference in voltage measurement results between SEM and multimeter is 0.99%. The average difference in current measurement results between SEM and multimeter is 0.88%. The android application-based SEM design has been successfully developed. The experimental results show that the SEM has worked well and shows high accuracy.
