Abstract
As early as 1927, the directors of the association “La Colonie Scolaire”, of Zionist sensibility, organized vacation camps in Berck-sur-Mer for needy Jewish children. Hygienism and eugenics, in vogue in French society during the interwar period, were the main objectives of these camps, which were also oriented towards the transmission of Jewish culture. Physical activities and collective games in the open air, accompanied by abundant food and regular medical care, were used to form a healthy generation that was aware of its origins.
