Abstract

Stevens (1966) and others have developed the method of cross-modality matching (CMM) to validate the exponents of power functions obtained from ratio-estimation (RE) . Theoretically, the exponent in CMM is the ratio of the exponents obtained for the attributes when tested individually by RE. It may be possible to derive the effects of context factors, e.g., position of the standard, range of stimuli, found in RE from the results of CMM.
