Abstract

Microstrength determined applying the microindentation method is an essential indicator of micromechanical properties of abrasive tools’ grains. Assessment is carried out according to the damage area dimensions and the imprint depth. The test results of various materials, including abrasive materials, in a friction machine revealed that relative wear-resistance of those materials depends on microstrength. The higher microstrength is, the lower wear-resistance of materials is. Such dependence was revealed in the course of studying the process of microcutting by single abrasive grains, as well as evaluating specific capacity of abrasive tools in operation. Thus, the microstrength parameter can be used to forecast operational efficiency of materials and tools.
