Abstract

To the Editor: Meningiomas are the most common tumor of the central nervous system (CNS).1 Rarely, collections of meningothelial cells may be found ectopically located in the cutis and subcutis. Lopez, Silvers, and Helwig2 classified cutaneous meningiomas into 3 types. Type I occurs on the scalp, face, or paravertebral region at birth.2-4 This primary cutaneous meningioma probably originates from arachnoid cell rests displaced during embryogenesis into the cutis or subcutis. Primary cutaneous meningoimas are divided into two types; one is a true neoplasm with the pathologic appearance of conventional CNS meningioma.
