Abstract
Dayton P. Jorgenson first joined the Census Bureau in 1946 and later became supervisor of the Chicago field office. In 1956, he joined the Chicago Area Transportation Study to design and administer travel surveys, motor vehicle and accident cost studies, and was appointed Assistant Director of the Study. In 1972, he rejoined the Census Bureau as Chief of the Transportation Division and supervised the analysis and publi cation of the 1972 National Travel Survey, the nation's largest periodic survey of household travel activity. Jorgenson is currently director of the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter of The Travel Research Association.
