Abstract

Eczema in the nipple areola complex is a non-specific symptom of many diseases, both benign and malignant. One of them is the infection of nipple areola complex by Demodex folliculorum. This infection is rarely symptomatic, and when it is, the symptoms are non-specific like eczema and itching. This fact, and the little existing knowledge about this condition leads to it not being taken into account in the differential diagnosis of nipple areola complex eczematous diseases.A description is presented on our experience in the diagnosis of a case of nipple areola infection by Demodex folliculorum in a 42 year-old woman. The objective of this paper is to facilitate the diagnosis of nipple areola complex eczematous diseases, and to increase knowledge about this disease.
