Democratic Wind of Change : A Case of Arab Spring

Abstract

What started like one of incident, but now it has widely metamorphosed into a trend. The fire of revolution that started in Tunisia, December 2010 is already consuming not just North Africa countries but the Middle East. Other nations in the North Africa and Middle East with similar leadership sit-tight traits may be counting their days. The ongoing Arab spring motivates this study to examine the limitation of sit-tight syndrome and demonstrate there is no substitute to participatory democracy. The study was descriptive while data obtained from secondary sources. The study found that the era of dictatorial leadership has gone no matter how benevolent. In addition, the use of religion as a means of sustaining self in power is no longer fashionable. The conclude that the on ongoing crisis might spread beyond north Africa and Middle East while good governance based on democratic arrangement is the possible to the current crisis. The study recommends that there must be gradual democratization in Arab States. The study further recommend that the system should accommodate the culture of the nation and the fundamental rights of the citizenry should be guaranteed.
