Abstract
Current regime changes (the so-called Arab Spring and Colour Revolutions in some of the former Soviet republics) raise interrelated issues of international relations (IR) theory and international law. Among these issues are democratic peace theory (DPT) and its role in supporting or justifying policies which are guided mainly by economic and strategic interests, external assistance or encouragement of regime change, and the use of force for humanitarian purposes as well as interference, militarily or otherwise, in internal conflicts on behalf of either governments or opposition. There are several serious problems with DP theories, even within the European context. This chapter discusses problems with financing war efforts. Keywords:democratic peace theory (DPT); economic interests; financing war efforts; policies; regime changes; strategic interests
