Abstract

A vehicular micro cloud is a group of connected vehicles in which vehicles offer their computational, data storage, sensor and communication resources as services to others. In this paper, we demonstrate collaborative data storage by a vehicular micro cloud where a regional distributed data storage service is provided over vehicular networks. In collaborative data storage, connected vehicles in the vicinity form a micro cloud in which micro cloud members collaboratively keep multiple copies of data contents in their local storage. A vehicular micro cloud adopts a data management protocol where each data content is managed by a primary node. The simulation results show that collaborative data storage by a vehicular micro cloud can maintain data content availability with a certain degree of data replication under different vehicle to-vehicle (V2V) communications penetration rates.
