Abstract
The KX field in Tarakan Basin North Kalimantan has a potential value to be developed as gas field. The reservoir zone is located in sandstone delta of Pliocene time. The study is conducted to obtain characters of ancient delta reservoir to support the development plan. The reservoir quality of Pliocene sandstone is not distributed evenly in delta environment. Reservoir characterization using complex trace seismic attribute and acoustic impedance inversion method have been deployed to address the issue of reservoir distribution and quality. Lateral sandstone distribution in Tarakan Formation of Pliocene time has been detected by instantaneous frequency complex trace seismic attribute. Depositional environment and paleogeography of Tarakan Formation is interpreted using instantaneous phase complex trace seismic attribute. Combined interpretation of instantaneous frequency and instantaneous phase marked sandstone reservoir that has good quality and separate the non-reservoir area. Acoustic impedance inversion seismic is deployed to assist the development plan to mark the best porosity lateral zone in the reservoir area of Pliocene Tarakan Formation. Quantitative interpretation of reservoir properties based on acoustic impedance has range in 4300-5800 (m/s * g/cm3) and porosity ranges from 20-30%. The reservoir property values are interpreted as good quality reservoir that deserved to be developed.
