Abstract

Self-concept considered as a human internal characteristic has great influence on everyday life situations as well as on academic matters. In this paper we have gone through the definition and main models of self-concept, to stop later considering Vispoel's new idea of artistic self-concept categorized previously by Shavelson, Huebner and Stanton (1976), that can be valued by means of a questionnaire designed for this purpose called Arts Self-Perception Inventory. Vispoel (1993, 1995) thinks that artistic self-concept is compound of those self-perceptions people have of themselves in artistic activities, considering these activities included inside Visual Arts, Music, Dance and Dramatic Art. He has also observed that artistic self-concept has a clear multidimensional character but on the contrary a moderate hierarchical aspect. Nowadays investigations on artistic self-concept are going on.
