Abstract

The degradation of ac and dc conductivity, field dependence of conductivity, and activation energy were studied for paraelectric BaTiO3 ceramic subjected to high alternating electric fields at 150°C. The time to failure for disks of three thicknesses was determined as the 3.5 power of field strength and a model was developed relating degradation to electrostrictive forces.
