Abstract

The effect of the age hardening on the critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) of Cu-1·1 at% Ti single crystals was measured at 200 K. The dependence of the CRSS on the ageing time exhibits two maxima. This behaviour is connected with the change of the microstructure Cu-Ti alloy during the ageing. The comparison of the experimental values of the CRSS with the stress corresponding to the elastic stresses due to concentration modulations (Cahn [6]) shows that this spinodal strengthening is the major effect.
