With the application of sociological research methods, the popularity of individual Ukrainian national types of martial arts among coaches and martial artists was determined. A comparative analysis of the assessment of technical actions in the most popular competitive sections of the Cossack duel, fight hopak combat and horting was carried out. Shown are the technical differences between the competitive and those competitive sections in which only the striking technique of conducting a match is used and sections in which the rules of sports competitions allow the use of striking and wrestling techniques of conducting a sports match. The need for a scientific search for new methodical approaches to building a training process in Ukrainian martial arts is shown. The sports result is influenced by the level of technical, tactical, psychological and physical preparation.
