Abstract

India is the second largest country in the world having more than 1.3 billion people, in which most of the people are depending on agriculture resources. In India, our state Tamilnadu is also contributes to the national agricultural products such as paddy, maize, sugarcane, turmeric, etc. The most wanted and the important crop grown in Tamilnadu is Paddy. Cauvery Delta Zone in Tamilnadu is the major contributor in the production of paddy. This Zone covers the districts such as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagappattinam, Pudukottai, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Karur and Tiruchirappalli. Most of the people in these districts are dependent on the cultivation and the yield of paddy. Increasing the yield of the paddy crop in these districts is expected to have a significant impact on the economy of both the farmers and the nation on a whole. This increase in crop yield will promote sustainable agriculture which will result in attaining a sustainable development of our nation. Performing a precise prediction about the crop yield could help the farmers take necessary steps to improve their yield in future and get economical benefits out of it. Among the various prediction models that have been developed in the literature, there are only a limited number of models that exists to forecast the yield of paddy. Hence, a Deep Learning based yield prediction model has been proposed to forecast the yield of paddy in the Cauvery Delta zone which is the major contributor of the production of these crops. Here, Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) has been used to build the prediction model.
