Abstract

This paper describes cognitive and behavior analytic approaches to the study of intrinsic and extrinsic reward effects and considers the implications of differences in these approaches for future study and application. A critique of the research design and data analysis techniques used in the Deci-type paradigm is presented. The paper also describes a behavioral model of intrinsic reinforcement for use by Organizational Behavior Managers, and concludes with a proposal for research in this area.
