Abstract

1. 1. The effects of control human sera and sera from patients afflicted with certain neurological disorders on the binding of [ 3H]GABA and [ 3H]muscimol (both at 6.2 × 10 −9 M) were compared in a crude synaptic membrane fraction of rat brain. 2. 2. The presence of undiluted whole sera (representing about 22% of the total volume of final suspensions) decreased the binding of both [ 3H]GABA and [ 3H]muscimol. 3. 3. Sera from patients with epilepsy and encephalopathies decreased the binding of [ 3H]GABA, but not that of [ 3H]muscimol, to a greater extent than did control sera.
