Abstract

As a complement to the nano-particle dimer, the hole dimer in a metal can present a strong plasmonic coupling between the dimer holes. Here we show that the wave propagation behavior in the hole dimer may be greatly influenced by the coupling effect. Taking the rectangular hole dimer as an example, the cutoff characteristics have been calculated, and show a decrease as the hole distance is reduced. The physical mechanism is correlated with the repulsive magnetic interaction between the surrounding currents of the rectangular holes.
