Abstract

Hydrolysis behavior of poly(ethylene-2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate) (PEN) to 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid (2,6-NPA) and ethylene glycol (EG) in water at high temperature was examined with a batch reactor. PEN was depolymerized in water above 523K. The yield of 2,6-NPA increased with increasing reaction temperature up to 97% at 693K. EG was also obtained above 523K and the maximum yield of EG was 86% at 573K.
