Abstract

ABSTRACTThe technical approach adopted for reliability engineering of the Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG—47) daring preliminary and contract design phases evolved from the Naval Ship Engineering Center (NAVSEC) experience with previous surface combats ship designs. This paper describes the following key steps of the approach: Description of TIGER simulation program. Construction of DDG‐47 ReUabfflty Model. Preparation of a mission timeline to exercise and stress primary mission areas. Determination of primary mission area essential equipment. Development of equipment requirements matrices and logic diagrams. Identification and source selection of equipment MTBF/MTTR indices. Selection and definition of relevant performance measures. Quantification of results.
