Abstract

How is the impression of a doctor-patient-communication viewed subjectively from the patient’s point of view? In order to clarify this question a videographed recording from the discourse with her physician was presented to the patient Julia. Here subjective perception and concepts of comprehension during the conversation were expressed and reconstructed by the Heidelberg Structure-Formation-Technique (SFT). The results reveal the patient’s increased understanding in her own symptoms including her biographical background. During a short discourse (< 8 minutes) a successful conceptual transfer from the patient’s somatized symptoms (nausea and headache) is possible, leading to the realisation of a symptom-associated social situation combined with a fundamental fear of loss.
