Abstract
To care for aging parents is a big challenge for the children in terms of organising ones time and from an emotional perspective. It means a change for the family system as well, because care is in most cases supported by professionals. With their engagement the nursing staff is gaining insight into the families for a certain period of time. In outpatient care or in hospitals they will even become part of the families. They will become observers of the internal communication structures and family conflicts. In some cases they are the reason for disputes in the families. In that context a semiotic triangle arises - the person who needs care, the family members and the nursing staff. How can these complex structures and related dynamics be managed? To make the effort of care for the elderly and sick efficient it is essential to keep track of the visible and invisible bonds in families and to find the right language to best support all who are involved. In addition there are a few other aspects of family dynamics to mention.
