Abstract

The temperature variation of electrical properties of PbS/polystyrene (PS) nanocomposite films has been investigated in dark and under illumination in the temperature range of 77 to 300 K. Dark conductivity of the films is a combination of Mott variable range hopping (M-VRH) from 77 to 125 K, Nearest neighbour hopping (NNH) from 125 to 185 K and thermally activated band conduction (TABC) from 250 to 300 K. The activation energies of NNH and TABC are 17 and 85 meV, respectively. The films are highly photoconducting below 100 K. Photoconductivity of films first increases slowly up to 100 K and then decreases until 300 K. Photoconductivity sensitization centreat 34 meV below LUMO have been identified from quenching of photoconductivity. The results are explained on the basis of interaction between PbS nanoparticles and polystyrene.
