Abstract

"In the Very Light of the Apocalypse": Science and Poetry in "The Songs of Maldoror". Lautréamont uses scientific language in three ways: substituting scientific words for others, using qualifiers, and comparisons. All treat science on an ironic par with other modes of discourse; but also, are an analysis — scientific — of human nature as cause of science.
