Abstract
Abstract In an introductory paragraph, some basics of health monitoring and dynamic testing of dams are discussed. These include description of forced and ambient vibration testing procedures as well as a short historical review of dynamic dam testing. The main part consists of the description of dynamic tests performed by EMPA, Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research, on three dams and the respective results. This includes forced vibration tests using a servohydraulic vibration generator on two medium‐sized dams, a concrete gravity dam in Switzerland, and an arch dam in Sweden as well as ambient vibration tests on a large arch dam in Switzerland.
