Abstract
Drug abuse remains a national issue that is difficult to control, and rehabilitation or imprisonment does not necessarily effectively cure addiction. Many inmates relapse after being released from prison. This article investigates the impact of group counseling in preparing drug inmates for release to prevent relapse, using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects were 20 males aged 23 to 51 in Salatiga and Ambarawa prisons. The results showed that group counseling interventions significantly reduced the tendency to relapse, proving that group therapy can be implemented in prison rehabilitation programs. The DPR RI needs to oversee the implementation of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code and provide feedback to BNN RI, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (KemenkumHAM), and the National Police (POLRI) regarding the preparation of inmates before release to prevent relapse after release.
