Abstract
In order to reduce the size and maintenance problems of CPM schedules for large public works programs, a system of summarization networking was developed and utilized on the Dade County, Miami, Transit Program. By summarizing contractor provided CPM schedules into a 2,000 activity management network while working directly with the contractor's networks, the control of a large public works program is greatly simplified. Additional summarization by computer is provided for by means of a unique coding structure which allows for reducing the 2,000 activities to higher levels of detail and ultimately to a one activity definition of the entire program. It is believed that by reducing the bulk of CPM scheduling, the respect and usage it deserves will again increase.
