Abstract

This thesis is to explore[ the new world of music] that had been created in Russia and to show the extraordinary life, unique talent, and world-famous masterpieces created by the ever genius Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893). In 1878, Tchaikovsky was sick and with the help of Nadezhda von Meck, Tchaikovsky was able to rest and recuperate in Clarence, Geneva Lake. During that period of recuperation, Tchaikovsky composed the Violin Concerto in D Major, Op 35 which contains a strong background of Russian touch, and was later named one of the world’s top four violin concertos, comparable to the ones Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Brahms’s great works. The author will separate this thesis into five sections, which includes the life of Tchaikovsky, the musical style, with the third and fourth chapters focusing on the background story behind the creation of Violin Concerto in D Major, Op 35, it’s musical structure and further analysis the skill and style of interpretation. It also presents Tchaikovsky’s life experiences and creations-related in the conclusion in Chapter 5.
