The following three methods are included: (b) The Referee Method covers gravimetric, acid-dehydration procedures; it is independent of interferences, and is a primary measure of total silica in water. The Non-Referee Methods are colorimetric determinations, and are secondary measures of crystalloidal (noncolloidal) silica in that they must be standardized against the Referee Method or primary silica standards.
