Abstract
The Czochralski technique with a modified automatic diameter control system has been used to grow single crystals of GdVO 4 with zircon structure. It was found that selection of the growth atmosphere was important to prevent crystal coloration. The lattice parameters are a = 7.218 A ̊ and c = 6.356 A ̊ . Two main kinds of inclusions were observed in the GdVO 4 crystals: dendrites and stringers.
