Abstract
SUMMARYTwo evolutionary lineages may be distinguished in the genus Eumigus on the basis of penis morphology, C-banding pattern and NORs location. One of them consists of E. rubioi and E. cucullatus, two species showing apical valves of penis slightly incurved, paracentromeric C-bands in all chromosomes and subproximal and distal NORs. The other lineage includes the species E. monticola which is characterized by apical valves of the penis very incurved, a smaller amount of C-heterochromatin in the L chromosomes and proximal NORs. In the latter species two chromosomal races have been detected which differ one another in C-heterochromatin content and chromosome location of the NORs. The race-1 lacks of C-heterochromatin in the L chromosomes and the NORs are located in the L2 and L3 bivalents. The race-2 shows faint C-bands in the L chromosomes and NORs located in the L3 and L4 bivalents.
