Abstract
In a recent survey, Snow (1963a) discussed briefly the cytological and phylogenetic status of section Primigenia ir Clarkia and Abdel-Hameed and Snow (1968) presented a comparison of cytological variability in natural populations of the only tetraploid of this section, i.e., C. gracilis. It becomes evident that experimental data are needed to elucidate the phylogenetic relationships between this tetraploid species and the diploids in the section to explain its origin. One of the diploid parents was found to be C. amoena huntiana (Abdel-Hameed, 1967; AbdelHameed and Snow, 1968) while the other was assumed to be C. lassenensis (Lewis and Lewis, 1955). The purpose of this paper is to show the relationship between these two diploid species.
