Abstract
Large amounts of non-ferritin ferric iron have been revealed cytochemically in granulations of the ‘Gomori positive’ glia grown in vitro. These granulations show a characteristic orange-red autofluorescence present both in living and formalin-fixed cells. The orange-red fluorescence disappears quickly from living cells under strong UV irradiation. Simultaneously, the formation of large globoid cytoplasmic inclusions, showing a strong yellow fluorescence, is observed.
