Abstract

The formation of a passive film on iron in a oxalic acid medium was studied by the technique of cyclic voltammetry. The results show that the metal dissolves anodically and the ions Fe2+, coming from this dissolution, form with oxalate ions a soluble complex of the type [Fe(C2O4)3]4-. The maximum of the voltammogram corresponds to the complete formation of the passive film. The electrochemical reaction that occurs at the electrode is of type :
