Abstract

Power system is considered as a large-scale system. Particularly, some special characteristics of these systems are their large number of inputs and outputs, the complex dynamics and their exposure to various types of disturbances and attacks. In this regard, PMU installation on the network as well as cyber-attack detection on critical power infrastructure systems has become an important research topic. In general, observer-based designed approach based on PMU information is one of the applicable and important techniques for attack detection. The purpose of this paper is to design decentralized unknown input observer on large-scale power systems for attack detection in power systems by using the information from PMU networks. Then, the procedure to identify and isolate attacks such as denial of service (DOS) and man in the middle (MitM) on these networks is analyzed. Finally, the proposed observer has been simulated and tested on IEEE 14-bus power system and the results are evaluated.
