Abstract

Three side-chain liquid-crystalline polysiloxanes were prepared by hydrosilations of poly(dimethyl siloxane-co-methylhydro siloxane)s using a chiral smectic C vinyl monomer. All the polymers exhibit a subambient temperature glass transition, a chiral smectic C (SC*) and chiral smectic A (SA*) phase. The maximum spontaneous polarization (Ps) measured for the SC* phase of polymer 1b is 368 nC/cm2.
