Abstract

Congenital talipes equinovarus is one of the most common lower limb congenital defects present at birth. The gold standard treatment is the Ponseti method and it harnesses the biomechanical properties of biological tissues. It involves serial gentle manipulation and casting. Part of this method is an Achilles tendon tenotomy prior to the final casts, boots and bars and if needed a tibialis anterior transfer for dynamic supination at a later stage. The Ponseti method does not result in normal feet but results in normal looking feet that are comfortable and function normally.
