It has been investigated that the level of plots of land in the Poltava region is 77.3%, which is a prerequisite for the development of methods for assessing the status of protected areas and taking measures to optimize them. It has been revealed that in the network of the nature reserve fund of the region there are 387 objects with the total area of 142.4 thousand hectares, which is only 4.95% of the actual area of the natural reserve fund of the region. It has been determined that objects of local significance prevail in the structure of the nature reserve fund of the studied region. The lowest is the indicator of the territory’s protection in the Poltava and Hrebinky districts, which requires urgent measures to optimize the regional econet. The attention is focused on the green plantations of the cities and adjacent to them forest areas that are part of the buffer zones at the crossroads of regional and national eco-corridors as territories promising to expand the nature reserve fund of the Poltava region.
