Abstract
The Space Activities Commission (SAC) of Japan, which is controlling the Japanese space activities, has revised its Long Term Vision in the beginning of 1996 and recommended in it, that Japan should aim to develop space systems that will leave as little space debris as possible. Space engineers and researchers who are responsible for the safety in space activities or having strong concerns about the space debris problem have joined the IADC (Inter Agency Space Debris Coordination Meeting) and been studying the problems in the field of 1) Measurement, 2) Modeling, 3) Protection, and 4) Mitigation. In the present paper, the current status and the future planning of the activities in Japan related to the space debris problem are presented.
