Abstract

In this study, the content analysis method was used in accordance with the predetermined form to analyze the design elements in the cover design by examining the visual design features of the children’s magazine cover designs that started its broadcasting life after the republic and recently in our country. Content analysis is a renewable, objective approach in which texts are first systematically arranged and words are organized into small units by arranging them according to predetermined criteria. The universe of the research consists of Bilim Çocuk 266 (40.9%), Çocuk Sesi 135 (20.8%), Doğan Kardeş 12 (1.8%), TRT Çocuk48 (7.4%), Türkiye Çocuk 34 (5%), 2), Yavru Türk 10 (1.5%), Kırmızı Fare 61 (9.4%), Çocuk Haftası 84 (12.9). The issues of Bilim Çocuk, Çocuk Haftası, Çocuk Sesi, Doğan Kardeş, Kırmızı Fare, TRT Çocuk, Türkiye Çocuk, Yavru Türk magazines, which constitute the universe of the research, were collected chronologically. The coding categories for the content analysis of the visual stylistic features on the identified 655 children’s magazine covers were created by making changes on the form prepared by McMullen 2019. The control form prepared for examining the visual features of these journals consists of six headings including the colors used, page layout, typography, image, visual identity, and the second explanatory heading, and a total of 39 items under the headings. One aspect of the research is whether the visual components used in the design of the magazines for children are prepared considering the age range of the target audience. Used in magazine cover design; Another dimension of the research is whether the typography, image, color and page layout continue in the same design language in each issue for the visual identity of the magazine. In addition, solutions for other issues that should be considered in magazine design are also presented.
