Abstract

AbstractA Cu(II)‐catalyzedortho‐selective amination of simple phenols withO‐benzoylhydroxylamines has been developed, which provides access to 2‐aminophenols under mild conditions. Various functional groups on the phenol and electrophilic amine are compatible, and the protocol typically delivers the products in moderate to good yields. The mechanistic detail of this process are discussed.
