Abstract

The behaviour of the 63Cu NQR-echo amplitude in a weak external magnetic field is studied for powdered samples of the well-known high-temperature superconductor (HTSC) YBa 2Cu 3O 7− x . In the normal conducting state the NQR signals of the Cu(1) sites can be explained according to standard theory, confirming the value of η=1 of the asymmetry parameter of the electrical field gradient. In contrast, the Cu(2) sites with η=0 seem to be exposed to an inhomogeneous local magnetic field, the reason for which is not yet clear. In the superconducting phase the amplitudes of the NQR-echo of both Cu(1) and Cu(2) sites with increasing external magnetic field decrease without oscillations, which can be explained by local magnetic field inhomogeneities caused by induced supercurrents.
