Abstract

Submonolayer deposition of a metal upon a well-characterized surface of the same metal can be used to study the properties of surface diffusion. Satellite diffraction peaks can be observed, whose shape is related to the island size and spacing distributions. Here we present results for Cu/Cu(110) for which the temperature and rate dependencies of the resulting distributions have been examined on beamline X16A at NSLS. The results are interpreted in terms of rate-equation theories.
