Abstract

The effects of vanadium element on the microstructure, mechanical properties and shape memory effect of Cu-13.0Al-4.0Ni-xV (x = 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0) (wt.%) high-temperature shape memory alloy were investigated systematically. The results show that the Cu-13.0Al-4.0Ni-xV alloys display dual-phase morphology which consists primarily 18R martensite and (Al,Cu,Ni)V3 phase. The grain size is significantly reduced by the addition of vanadium. The mechanical properties of Cu-13.0Al-4.0Ni-xV alloys are also improved due to the grain refinement and solid solution strengthening. When the pre-strain is 10%, the shape memory effect of 5.8% can be obtained for Cu-13.0Al-4.0Ni-0.5 V alloy.
