Abstract

Frederic W Grannis Jr is clinical professor of thoracic surgery at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte (CA, USA). Grannis has spent most of his adult life treating diseases caused by tobacco products, including lung cancer. He has served as a principal investigator in the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program (IELCAP) consortium and is a panel member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer Guideline Committee and the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Tobacco Related Disease Projects at the University of California (CA, USA). His career is based upon the premise that reduction of lung cancer morbidity and mortality can be achieved by a tripartite combination of tobacco control policy reform, smoking cessation interventions and screening of tobacco-caused disease in high-risk individuals.
