Abstract
With the ageing population increasing worldwide, interventions to slow down cognitive decline are urgently needed. To reach this goal, rejuvenation of the systemic environment—potentially improving brain function—is one approach that has been investigated over the past decade. A group of researchers working in the field of brain ageing and rejuvenation, led by Tony Wyss-Coray at Stanford University (Stanford, CA, USA), has previously shown that when old mice are exposed to blood from young mice, or blood plasma obtained from human umbilical cords, several age-affected processes in the brain are reversed to a younger state, leading to improved memory function.
